About Lisa

Lisa is a fully qualified Humanistic Counsellor, who has been registered and accredited by BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) for 18 years.  She is a mother and has raised four children, all of whom have since grown into successful young adults.

Within the schools, Lisa counsels both staff and the students who range from 11 to 18 years of age, she also accepts referrals from CAMHS (Child, Adolescent, Mental Health Services).  Whilst the work she carries out focuses on adolescents, their homes, schools and peer groups.

During four years of training and even upon qualifying, Lisa had no specific intention that would lead her to working with adolescents and their families. But as life unfolded and the path within her career developed, she found what she felt passionate about.

It soon became clear that the adolescents she worked with, were at a crucial pivotal point in their lives, whilst the parents and teachers who had their best interests at heart, needed support.   Striving to create value within an environment fundamental to the support and development of tomorrow’s adults.

Lisa continually works to develop her skills, herself and the service she offers.  Supporting growth within young people and the adults in their lives.  The improved relationships with their peers and within the family home, enable students to focus on studies which in turn benefit their grades.  Such changes stand out.  It didn’t take long for one of her schools to request that she extend her service to school staff.

A Support Structure that Fell Short.

The wide variety of clients and the issues clients present, come from referrals within the schools, CAMHS, Doctor’s Surgeries and also Lisa’s own private practice.  They all drew attention to a single point.

Whilst there are a variety of support services available, none exist to “support” parents.

Even without any major issues when raising her own children, life was by no means easy being a parent of four teenagers.  Knowing how difficult it has always been and realising that the pace of today’s world, makes the job of raising children even harder.

Through the work she carries out with adolescents, Lisa has true insight into the varied issues and how they affect our teens today. Stress, anxiety, depression and self-harm to name just a few.  With support for the children and numerous interventions for when parents get it wrong, there was a huge vacuum which needed to be filled with a positive structure of support for the parents who were at a loss for how to cope.

Yes, there’s certainly help “out there”.  The internet has many valuable self-help sites, groups and blogs.  Parents sharing problems and advice.  But it can be near impossible to sift through so much when searching for help.  How on earth is a parent expected to hunt for help when they’re already struggling to keep their head above water.

Meantime, A Game Changer

Continuous Professional Development is a requirement of Lisa’s profession.  It has enabled her to continually add to her therapeutic toolkit and draw upon a huge skill base.

In 2012 Lisa read an article on a little-known therapy called “EFT” (Emotional Freedom Technique).  It was referred to as an “energy therapy”.  The term was unorthodox, as were people’s descriptions of it as a therapy.  But the accounts of people’s experiences seemed to be written with such utter conviction, describing their situations and the debilitating emotions which had controlled their lives.  The descriptions of their experiences of EFT and joyous accounts of freedom from what had previously held them captive made it impossible not to be sceptical.  But it was also hard not to be interested.  And so, the first tentative steps into new territory were taken.

Undertaking training to the level of “Advanced EFT Practitioner”, Lisa studied and qualified.  It was during the training that Lisa had first-hand experience of the benefits gained from using EFT.

Armed with the confidence that only “direct experience” can create and secure in the relationships she had built with her schools, she approached the Principal of her main school.

Listening to explanations of EFT and the potential benefits when used in conjunction with professional counselling, the decision to use this new therapy was swift.  Counselling Consent forms were changed in order to include EFT and this new and unique therapy was used for the first time in a UK school.

Finally Moving Forward

That was 7 years ago.  Today EFT, commonly referred to as Tapping, is being used across Hospital, Doctors Surgeries and even starting to appear in the classroom.  Children are taught in small groups on how to use it to manage stress, upset and emotions previously unmanaged.

In the 7 years that have passed since those first exciting steps, Lisa David has introduced this to all her schools, and fellow colleagues in order to share the amazing tool.

Meantime, Lisa has carried out thousands of sessions with amazing effects.

A true Pioneer in the implementation of EFT in schools and the most experienced EFT practitioner using her skills alongside her practice of therapeutic counselling.
